Like many people who were fortunate during the pandemic not to be completely consumed with worry about money and health, I found it created an opportunity to pause and reflect on life. I also ended up cooking even more than usual (fortunately I love cooking!), while taking all my therapy work online. Although it was wonderful that tech allowed me to keep working during the pandemic, working remotely also made me appreciate how much I enjoy seeing clients face to face. Being with people and doing things together is a very human need. I began to wonder if there was a way to combine my passion for food with my work in mental health.
Earlier in 2022 after completing a 12-month Nutritional Counselling Diploma alongside a close friend and coaching colleague, Sarah Walter, we began developing ideas for a series of workshops about the link between what we eat and mental health. We’ve called it ‘Circle of Soup’ because for us it captures the essence of cooking and having fun in a creative, collaborative and inclusive way. We are currently in the pilot phase, but hope to have it ready for public consumption by the Spring of 2023.
